5.3L & 4L60E - Speedo Questions
As the title states, I'm doing a 2006 gen III & 4L60E swap on my 71 c10. I have come to the point where i have to decide what to do about the speedometer situation. I would REALLY like to keep the factory gauges!! I know there is a mechanical tailshaft kit (approx $500) and I know there is an electrical box you can buy to convert mechanical speedometer into electrical signals but I have heard that it doesn't work well.
Does anyone know if you can buy an original guage that is controlled electically? Is there a kit? Can you buy one? Any other ideas? Any and all suggestion / ideas are welcome. Thanks |

Re: 5.3L & 4L60E - Speedo Questions
First off Hello, i am kind of new to the board, been on for a while just haven't posted yet.
I am in the proccess of doing the same swap (LR4)... I found that you can have Redline Gauges do it for $250 without art and $400 if they need to print a new face to match the swing of the guage, You send in your stock guage and they rework it with all electronic internals. Only down fall is its a 2 month waiting time for turn around. I want to keep the stock guages as well, but it seems the more i look into it, i might just retrofit autometers in the stock locations. Re: 5.3L & 4L60E - Speedo Questions
All of your options have been mentioned above. Just to clarify one point though, the Cable-X is not problematic. The only complaint I have ever heard about it is the price, which can run north of $300. If stock apearance is not a requirement, you can buy an electric speedo for less than half of that. If keeping the stock speedo is a must, then go with the Cable-X. Remember, you can still use it if you decide on a future transmission swap, and you can even move it to another car or truck if you need to.
