High hump or low hump?
What are the advantages of a high hump cab compared to a low hump? Preference? Easier to work on the tranny? Just courious.

Easier to get to the tranny bolt's and shift linkage imo.

Also the high humps are bolted in where the lowhumps are not. Well at least the high hump in my K25 is bolted in.

Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |

Some1 correct me
if I'm wrong but I think all the trucks that had a standard tranny were high hump bolt in and the auto's were all 1 piece part of the floor board.I looked every where for a bolt in auto. hump and could not find 1.I have never seen a high hump auto. But then again there is alot of things I haven't seen yet

A humping we will go AKA the ABC's of humps
All 4x4 trucks and all 4 speed trucks had high hump cabs. All big block equipped trucks had high humps regardless of transmission (there may be some debate here). All 3 speed manual and small block autos have low humps. Never seen an I6 auto so I don't know about them.
High humps were bolted in. The factory cut the low hump out and welded a strip of nuts on a re-envorcing strips to bolt it down. If you look at a low hump cab, there is a depression around the hump that serves as the guide to where to cut. It is very easy to make a low hump cab into a high hump one, just cut and bolt. Not all humps are created equal. BB auto trucks have no holes in them. 4 speed 2wd trucks have one hole. Auto and 3 speed column manual 4x4 trucks have one hole. 4 speed 4x4's have 2 holes. On 2wd trucks the location of the holes vary from engine to engine because of the placement of the engine in the engine bay. I6's set the hole further back whereas the small blocks have it moved forward somewhat. The ultra-rare 4 speed BB is different still. This is important when looking for proper boot and trim ring. On 4x4's the transmission shfter location never changed, however the xfer case shifter location changed. In 67-69 with the rockwell xfer case the xfer case shfter hole is is LH center. In 70 the xfer case hole for the NP205 is dead center and in 71/72 the xfer case shifter hole is center RH side. Now the only question left is "one hump of two?"

To throw a stick in the spokes, my 69 GMC that had a 305 V-6 and a TH400 has a stock high hump floor, while chevy fatman's 69 GMC longhorn with the 305/TH400 has the low hump.
