Dual tank question
My truck only has the passanger side tank in it right now and I want to put the drivers side in also, Here is my question instead of wiring up two fuel senders and hooking up the tank selector switch and everything else can I just run to Y fittings on the fuel hose and return line so I'm pulling from both tanks at the same time.

Re: Dual tank question
I am not positive, but if one tank runs empty, you are out of gas. So with that being said if one tank "flows" better than the other it will always use the gas and the other will just sit stagnant. My opinion only though.

Re: Dual tank question
I have never heard of anyone trying that. It may work, not sure how well though. You could only have your fuel gauge connected to one though. If you try it let us know how it works for you.
Keep in mind you can get a universal tank selector switch pretty cheap....and stock style ones are about $100 if you go that route.

Re: Dual tank question
That will only "kinda" work. They won't empty at the same rate. When the first one goes empty and starts sucking air, the second one won't work at all.
My truck has a second aftermarket tank and no selector valve, they just added a second electric fuel pump for that tank. Now I have an extra fuel pump if one dies too. It's not completely hooked up right now so I'm not totally sure how it's plumbed, but electric fuel pumps for carbs are only like $40.

Re: Dual tank question
Mine came factory w\2 tanks. I've replaced the valve and the switch and it works, BUT, I have thought about being out there someplace and haveing the factory system fail. This is what I came up with to failsafe it next time it quits. 2 fuel pumps, 2 check valves to prevent back flow and 1 double throw double pole toggle switch so I can power each pump seperately and feed sender signals to gas guage. 2 indicator lamps so I knew at a glance which tank I was using. Putting the switch in some out of the way place would also disable the fuel system and help with anti theft by leaving the switch in the center. Just a thought. If you do it this way, post a message so we know how it works for you. jim
