pilot bearing pressed into the crank snout no problem with a flat piece of steel, it was tight but not impossible.

What kind of prep did you do? Did you just use a BFH with the steel and drive it home?

Yep, just greased it and drove it home with the steel plate and mallet. I guess you could throw the bearing in the freezer to make it easier.
