Gas filter

Having trouble finding out why the gas is draining from my filter. If not driven for maby 3 or 4 hours the filter will be almost empty from just sitting and its hard to start. does anyone know why and how to fix. If gas is in filter truck will start up quick maby 1/4 turn of flexplate.

Re: Gas filter

I have the same issue with my truck. From what I've read here there is a check valve of some sort in the mechanical fuel pump that is supposed to keep the fuel from flowing back out of the carb. Over time those can go bad which allows the fuel to drain away.

Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like maybe you might consider replacing the fuel pump.

I have to pour some gas into the carb to get mine started if it's been sitting around for a while.

Hope that helps.

Re: Gas filter

I had some old line on my charger and this would happen. It would never leak or anything, but I had the same thing happening. I finally replaced the few rubber lines along with new hose clamps and it fixed it. There must have been just enough of a leak/hole/rot to let it release and back down. Kind of like if you ever get a straw with a small hole in it at a restaurant. If you ever have, you know what I am talking about. Might be something to look into. If not, probably your fuel pump.
