Cruise Control Question

Does anyone know what kind of cruise control this is? It came on the 72 I bought, but it does not look like the dealer installed CC for that year...at least from the pics I have seen. Thanks.

Re: Cruise Control Question

I agree not factory definitely aftermarket. There were alot of these offered through JC Whitney and others such as sears and western auto and such so without sometype of sticker or other means of identification it wuld be hard to determine origins.

Re: Cruise Control Question

Is there any engine id stickers located on either valve cover on your engine? Was the truck assembled at the fremont plant or was it shipped from another location? Just curious on the assembly plant- it is the letter in the vin number.

Re: Cruise Control Question

Hey Harold- Yes it was assembled at the Fremont plant. I have the protecto-plate, original build sheet, and original bill of sale. This truck has been here in So Cal all its life. It was bought at a dealer about 15 mins away from where I live now. It also still has the valve cover sticker identifying it as a 402.

Re: Cruise Control Question

Thanks for the info. My brother has a 72 3/4 4x4 Custom Camper that was built at the Fremont plant and shipped to Oregon and then end up here in North Carolina, I thought it was pretty cool that it has at least crossed two continental divides in its life. Thanks for the info. Harold

Re: Cruise Control Question

Hey leddzepp, do you have any more pictures of this setup? I just bought a new (still in box) CC unit. It looks just like the one that I'm going to be getting in the mail soon, and this looks really close to what I'm getting. It would seem that its a Sears CC unit. If you want I'll through some pix up when I get it.

Re: Cruise Control Question

For about $150, Sears had an add-on cruise control....and that was installed. This would have been back in the mid-Seventies. I don't recall who made it, but there were a bunch of them sold and installed. Usually involved cutting off the end of the turn signal stalk, but some were piggy-backed onto the stalk.

Re: Cruise Control Question

So I just got it in the mail today. Here are a couple pix.
I'd be happy to scan the manual so that you can have a copy of it; that is if you still have the truck that this is in.
