stepside bed sidestep question

Hello, i am currently in the process of fitting my 1971 stepside bed together. i bought a set of side steps from a guy with the L brace still attached and I think they are the early ealier version steps. I kept the L braces and threw the away the steps because the brace was all I needed.

My question is.......does the L brace for the steps differ from 67-69 to 71-72?

my L brace does not line up with the two bolt holes on the 1971 steps. also it seems too narrow at the top of the brace to bolt to the cross sill.

i looked all over for a good picture but i havent found any great pics of this detail of the bed.

I did find one picture that that seemed to show the L brace being wider at the top of a 1972.

A little back round info: it use to be a long bed 4x4 but i shortened it and am building the bed from parts i bought so i dont have anything to refrence it to.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!! ill try to post some pix later

I'm thinking that too, but I can't say I'm 100% certain.

Re: stepside bed sidestep question

This is the drivers side bracket.
The step bolts go in the "front side" of the front cross sill.
