I'd post a WTB ad. It's amazing what people have stashed away collecting dust in their garage.

I taped mine off and spray-painted it Chevy orange. Polished up the chrome and painted the black outline with a small brush. Came out looking like new and I got to keep $50 in my wallet where it belongs!

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
If the bowtie part isn't cracked... you could probably use lacquer thinner and rub off the old paint in the back. Get some translucent blue paint, and then paint silver behind it. Should come out close to the original bowtie. Trevor

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
I milled one out of billet aluminum to put on mine..
But I'll probably mount it on my roll around tool box instead.

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
I have a '69/'70 bowtie for a future project. The silvery paint is flaking off. I intend to clean it all off with alcohol and mount LEDs behind it to go on with the parking lights. Just an idea.

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
I'm not sure if the 71-72 one on the grill is made like my hood one but I took the 69-70 one off my hood to clean it up.
I polished off the old factory paint from the back side of it after removing the "insert" from the chrome housing. I then spray bombed the back side with metallic blue. I hit the housing real good with chrome polish and put it all back together. I don't have a real good close up of the Bow Tie small enough to post but here it is installed on the truck.

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
The 71-72 blue is not really a painted surface, it's almost a metallic/florescent surface covered with a plastic type material. That's why the repops are costly compared to other years. Not sure how successful one could be trying to restore it and have it look as original. Over the years I have purchased several prepops and they just don't last. The blue fads fast and the metal begins to get poc marks and rust with in a few months, even with regular waxing. The original ones lasted for many years with little or no care. I bit the bullet and found an NOS emblem and wow, what a difference in fit and finish. It has been on for a little over a year and still looks box fresh.

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
A tense day around Coarsegold today while we waited for daughter Nicole (33) to get info back on a bad breast exam.
I installed the (glued and patched) inner grill in the newly polished grill bezel for the '71 front clip. I painted some crumpled up tin foil with Chevy Red, cut it and molded it on to the bow tie. I hate it. I'm going to paint the fan side of the bow tie with a light coat of the Black Cherry color that will eventually go on the truck. Then maybe a coat of silver behind that. Doing this stuff in the office took up the time while we waited for the call. WOO HOO!!!! GOOD NEWS!!!! All is clear on the breast tissue tests! Good news for her, her husband, her kids, mother (particularly good for her Mom, as she's breast cancer survivor)... ......and, of course, good news for Dad!

Re: 71-72 Grille Bow Tie/ can it be repaired?
Is there a way to go to a glass company to see if they could produce a piece of "glass" and have a piece of metal put behind it that was powder coated? Not sure how much that would cost, but is that possible?
