anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
i have seen some brake boosters mounted without using the bracket.. so they dont stick out so far, anyone have any pics of what all this consists of ? is it just basically re drilling holes and shortening the plunger shaft ??

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
Im working on this as we speak. But I dont have any final "done" results or any pics yet. All that needs to be done is to remove the bracket, punch out studs from the inside brake assembly that go throught the fire wall, drill new holes to match booster bolts, drill new holes in firewall to match booster studs and fab up the brake petal rod to the correct lenght and bolt all together...
I have done all this, and for some reason I didnt like it. Maybe cause my firewall is all smoothed and painted metallic silver and my brake booster was painted black and clear coated. The contrast wasnt doing it for me. Im gonna paint the booster silver and see how I like it. I did make short bracket that sits about 2" off the firewall with a tube like sleeve that goes between the booster and firewall and it looked pretty good. Im jumping back and forth between wiring and the brakes to keep my brain from turning into mush from all the wiring... I should have a completed brake setup by the end of the week.... |

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
well since my firewall is smooth and silver.... i would really like to see a pic of how yours looks , that would give me a great idea of what to expect, my factory bracket on my booster (it's a 7 inch booster) is about 5 inches thick

Here's a hydro boost setup from Yukon Jack in case someone is interested in this type of brake system:

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
Here is what I have that eliminates the factory booster bracket. It just bolts to the firewall using the existing studs.
http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=347484 It is designed for a different booster, but you can use the '67-'72 booster by just elongating the holes slightly

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
Captianfab... i checked it out great looking piece, a couple of questions, how thick is the bracket ?? i have a 7 inch McGaughy brake booster will it work on it, do you have to modify the firewall any ?? and is that the reason to use you adapter ?? so no firewall modification is needed or is there any other reason that i am not thinking of ?

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
i will be watching this one... i have been wanting to do this also.. i have a std shift on the column.. and need the room for the shift leavers......... am curious if the smaller booster (1moretoy) provides adequate boost.

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
heres a couple pics of the rod and under the dash. I drilled a new hole in the pedal so all the linkage would line up better, welded on a piece of all thread rod and attached a rod coup. you can see the factory holes in the bracket and the new ones i drilled through the firewall.

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
The bracket is angled slightly, so in the middle it is out aprox 1 1/2" from the firewall. It might be a little less, I'd have to measure one to get you an exact measurement. I'm not familar with the McGaughy boosters and what their stud pattern is. The booster mounting pattern on my bracket is 3 3/8" x 3 1/2" There is absolutely no firewall modifications or hole drilling necessary with my booster brackets. That is one of the reasons behind designing it.

Re: anyone have any pics of modifying the brake booster to mount w/out the bracket
Very nice!!!!! I ended up having to use about a 3" bracket on mine because my booster is a little bigger than yours. It was going to hit the steering column if I mounted it direct to the firewall. Cant wait to see yours finished!
