Need help with removing tilt wheel housing

Hey guys, I am in the process of attempting to remove the turn signal switch in an original 72 tilt wheel column. The service manual it states "Tilt Columns Only - Assemble Tool J-22708 inside the directional signal housing cover; push in until tangs lock inside the cover flange. Turn the tool center screw clockwise to pull the cover from the housing". Does anybody know if this is absolutely necessary to replace the switch and if so what puller to use since I can't find the GM tool. I tried a generic puller from Harbor freight without any luck. The housing only has a very small rolled lip to work with.

The cover is a press fit. I made a small wood punch and tapped it off using the turn signal hole. They are not very tight.

Thanks John, I did what you said and it came right off. Where did you find the switch. It's nice to see another real Northern Ca. guy on the forum.
