Radiator purchase question

Hello all,

Looking for a 4 row radiator around $200. C20 1972 Suburban 350 - Questions:

1) various online sources show the radiator with the transmission lines (good) but don't show my set up with a heater hose running out/in near the top (see photo below) - The truck has A/C - Is this set up very unusual?

2) Anyone get a radiator recently with this set up - suggestions on where to buy? Or any other issues (did your transmission lines line up correctly?)

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Radiator purchase question

I just put a new Spectra Premium 4 core radiator that AutoZone in Pheonix had one in stock. It was 194 +tax. Never seen one with a heater hose coming out of it though. Should be no reason you can't plumb your intake with the fitting to allow it to be run there like normal, With the other fitting in the water pump.

Re: Radiator purchase question

My tranny lines matched up. The radiator was an exact copy of the original except for the reinforcing brace on top and bottom were as wide as the core. This threw my homemade electric fan shroud back about 1", but that won't be a problem with a stock shroud, since it mounts to the mounting brackets. On second look at your pick, you'd end up having to trim the plastic shroud to fit at the top and probably at bottom.

Re: Radiator purchase question

Got mine for a buck and a quarter....4-row core with AT cooler and connections. Of course, I cross-threaded the upper one but I can fix it, now that it is back out and in the garage. Got mine at a radiator shop.

Re: Radiator purchase question

That heater connection wasn't covered but is visible in the pics. Sources and prices were discussed here...

Re: Radiator purchase question

Thanks all!

I'm ordering one from O'Reilly. Unfortunately they can't help me with the heater hose attachment - I gave them a call and they were really nice, the woman spent a lot of time looking at books but just couldn't located it. So I'm switching the heater hose to the water pump. BTW great price and free shipping (and no tax for me in NY) - $179 for 4 row all metal construction radiator shipped to my door.

Since it cost nothing to ask...I'm asking - anyone see any issue with connecting the hose to the pump (see photo)? Looks like I'll need a slightly longer heater hose fitting to clear the arm on the water pump/AC...but those seem readily available.

Re: Radiator purchase question

You should have no prob. moving the heater hose, prob. find the fitting in the "Help" section. Just checked Oreilly's site, and seems they changed brands, from Ready-Rad to Murray and you can't tell from the pic. Would think the one for AC would have the fitting (why else would there be a difference). Just wait until you get the rad. And even have them open it (if shipped to store) just to check for damage. And of course see if it has the fitting.

Re: Radiator purchase question

What years had the heater hose to the radiator? I've never seen one like this.
