Frame Question

Hey all,

I need a little help. I have the opportunity to by a 76 4wd 1/2 ton Long bed frame from a board memebr here. My question is I have a 87 3/4 ton truck. Will my cab and bed fit on the 76 frame with little to no mods or is there too much of a difference in the 2 frames.

Thanks,

Sarge

Re: Frame Question

No one can help?

I would love to buy the frame but I'm not gonna jump on it unless I can find out for sure.

Re: Frame Question

If the 87 is a 4WD there won't be much difference at all. If it is a 2WD, then what you are taking on is a 2WD to 4WD swap, so you will be looking at some work to bolt up the running gear.

Sarge,

The swap is very easy. The bed is a direct bolt on. The '87 cab will fit just fine, but the 2 rear mounts are more outboard than on the '76, so you can either relocate the rear cab mounts or swap the '87 crossmember to the '76 frame. Like mentioned above, if your '87 is 2WD, the trans hump is too short to clear the transfer case and shifter (body lift or swapping trans humps will cure this). All else is virtually identical.

Re: Frame Question

The only part I would add to what was already said is to make sure the wheel base on the 76 frame matches the wheel base on your 87 body. Some pepople are really picky about their looks and if it is off by a few inches you may not be very happy when you get it all together.

Re: Frame Question

Thanks for all the help. I knew the body mounts were different, but I passed on the frame. We couldnt come to an agreement on price. Its a great deal but with the holidays I only have so much to put twards my project.

Again thanks for the help, and I hope you all have a great holiday season.
