Re: Finally beginning the restore of my 1968 C 10 shortbed stepside truck
I am back, with good and bad news
good .......................... my POS brother is FINALLY going to give me the title, he claimed for 2 years that i gave him the wrong VIN, so i emailed PA DMV and gave them the VIN + plate # and short story and asked if they would verify if it exists, got an email back within 24 hours saying ...................... yeah, it is here, it has always been here ............. so NOW, with no ability to deny, my brother is getting me the title BAD ..................... my trucks frame is FUBAR, I thought only replaceable parts like trailing arms were rotted but apparently the frame is damaged where the trailing arms would bolt on, the guy who will do the restore says I need a new frame. This sucks we did verify that the truck only has 26,903 miles on it, for some reason i thought it was over 30k not sure what to do next, is there a way to fix the frame? does it make sense to just buy a 2nd truck and restore from there with parts from both? In the end, at a minimum, I just want a 1968 C-10 shortbed stepside with MY vin # given my situation, how should I accomplish this? |

Re: Finally beginning the restore of my 1968 C 10 shortbed stepside truck
in this case ........................ apparently beyond repair
F'd Up Beyond All Recognition the truck sat in a garage until my brother sold the place where it sat, i bought the truck and wanted it shipped to me in CA but could not get it done without title so it sat outside, then got hauled to a local junkyard where it sat in a low lying field , the frame way on ground level and rotted enough to where it is now , apparantly, beyond use |

Maybe you just need a new crossmember, where the trailing arms bolt on. Shouldn't be too hard to find one.

Re: Finally beginning the restore of my 1968 C 10 shortbed stepside truck
my question would be .................. am i trying to make chickensalad out of chickencrap ?
trailing arms a re FUBAR beam where they bolt on is FUBAR trucks been yanked around 2 junkyards and now the 2 rear beams between the frame are bent and need replacing you are saying strip it down and sand blast and then evaluate? if the rest is in good shape just replace the useless parts and powdercoat? Re: Finally beginning the restore of my 1968 C 10 shortbed stepside truck
Well, that's what I would do. It's getting real hard to find short bed frames these days, and if the side rails are salvageable, you can replace any crossmember in question. You could always cut down a long bed frame too.

Looks like you are on the right track...
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=250980 BTW - If you are looking there, I am sure you saw this one: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=246379 Not that it helps you any being in VA, but there are some for cheap around. That is the route I would go for sure. DLB |
