Keeping your engine clean?

I've put about 10,000 miles on my engine and of course it's not as shiny as this right now:

What's the best way to keep it looking good other than not driving it?.... I know some engine cleaners will screw up the shine on the aluminum........

Re: Keeping your engine clean?

Well being I was the clean up kid for my dads multiple show cars for years here is my opinion. Do not use chemicals once the engine is done and set. I used a blend of simple green and warm water if there was spilled fluid of any kid and microfiber to clean. then rinse with hottest water your hands can stand. Get new microfiber dip into clean hot water and wipe off that is the only way I could avoid ruining the paint/chrome/billet my old man was so fond of having in the engine bay. Plus the simple green worked really well and is eco friendly no neighbors calling the EPA on me.
