POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

first want to say that I hope the mods can leave this here so it is accurate rather than putting it in the "engine and drivetrain" section where it won't get the right foot traffic to be accurate. Everyone owns a carb but not everyone visits those forums.

This is coming from a post I saw where a guy commented on how many people like Holleys on here. To my reply, I said that there are a ton of Edelbrock and Q-jet people on here too. I thought it would be neat, instead of hijacking someone's thread, to really find out here what is your most favorite carb. I realize that many run different makes so I just want to know your favorite. If you don't have a favorite, just tell us what your truck has. Please just keep it to the original maker. A Sean M. is a Q-jet and a Braswell is a Holley....etc.

Please only vote once and make it your preference. Thanks!

if you love to tune and tinker, get a holley.
if you want to bolt it on and leave it alone, get a edelbrock.
the quadrajunk is actually the very best carb for a daily driver if they can be rebuilt correctly. very few people seem to have the knack for them, so I personally avoid them.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

4 replies for the Edlebrock and 2 votes(as I write). That seems odd.

Anyway, I've had 5 Edelburps that NEVER ran right. Never personally had a good Q-jet period, but I won't call them junk.

I voted Holley. The 570 SA on my truck has ran perfect with NO fiddling or tuning on it for several years. My dad has 2 Holleys that have run perfect since their initial tune, again, with no fiddling or constant tuning. I've helped friends with several Holleys and they are happy with them.

I run Q-jet's on everything I have & have had. Great gas mileage & good driveability. I have been working on them for 40 years so I'm sure that helps.

Edelbrock of indeterminate origin. Would probably try Holley out next.

I have had my Q-jet rebuilt and the choke adjusted, but aside from that I have never touched it in 33 years except to replace fuel filters. I've had it at some fairly goofy angles off-road and it has never stumbled. Q-jet gets my vote.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

on my 72 burb c20 307 3 on the tree......ditched the 2bbl and went right for a tried and true Q-jet (with an edelbrock performer intake under it).

i like the combination of power and economy you get from that spread bore design. the q-jet was factory equipment on many of GM's baddest muscle cars....good enough for me! also, spending big bucks on an edelbrock carb to get 150cfm less than what GM provided from the factory seems counterproductive. as long as the carb is jetted properly and adjusted for the engine it doesn't hurt to have extra cfm capacity. air flow is determined by engine vacuum and it will only suck in the amount of air it needs.

i would take the edelbrock over the holly....unless it was a vintage car that came with one and i was doing a nut and bolt restoration. the best thing going for holley is the name.

I like holleys, I haven't really messed with any others so who knows I may like one of the others in the future , but for now holley gets my vote.

from my experiance holley if your racing[ I had a dominator that would idle perfectly all day long!] Edelbrock if you have a little something extra to play with under the hood that you don't have to work on . QJets are really good when they are good and some people really have good luck with them I have not and they always seem to leak for me. Jim

I'm only running an Edelbrock because my Q-jet had froze metering rod pistons, otherwise i would have stuck with it.

On a truck I am running a qjet. HP950 holley on a car and just odered a 1050 dominator carb for a new motor. For the street nothing beats a Qjet.

Re: POLL: Holley? Q-jet? or Edelbrock? Let's finish this once and for all!!!!

My opinion is an original carter. I know the edelbrock is similar, but i see lots less problems with the old carters. I always get a chuckle out of the die hard holley guys and their carbs that are so easy to tune. All day long at the track i would see the hoods up and changing or fiddling with something. Q-jets are nice also when they are setup correctly...
