Question What kind of Insurance do you all get?

I have a 78 chevy and when I get it road worthy I will need to get insurance on it. Should I get classic insurance? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Are there any limitations on what you can use the truck for if you have this insurance? And how much is it? Also, should I get the full replacement coverage?
I have never had to get insurance before, this is my first vehicle and I am not sure what I will need.
Thanks In Advance,
Mike

I am also 16, and I only plan on getting public liability. My truck isn't in good enough condition, or have enough money in it to warrant anything more. If I install a nice stereo or something, then yeah, I will get theft and such on it.

I'm 20, and I pay too much for insurance I have two policies. One policy, is for my truck, which is like $700 a year. The other policy is for my vette and my saturn. I pay $250 per month for the vette and satty.
Vette = Full Coverage
Saturn = Liability
Truck = Liability.

WOW , Guys

I had the opportunity to insure my truck under the "Classic car" agreement , which means :
- the car/truck has to be at least 20 years old
- it has to pass the yearly MOT inspection
- I may only drive 7500 kilometers (4700 miles ) a year
& I pay 186 EUR/US$ a year
If I want a minimum liability insurance , it would cost me almost 500 EUR/US$ a year.
I fell down when I saw the insurance prices you pay in the US ( 250 $ a month ?? ) , your gas maybe cheaper than ours but I must admit I'm happier here than you there...

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the responses. Ocbaud and The Baron hit it right on though with the info on the full covrage and the classic car. Is the classic car the same here in the States as over there? When my truck is completly done and is in perfect shape would it be worth the full coverage? What kind of coverage would cover it if it got keyed or something like that? Is there any?
Thanks

I have liability only as mine is a junker right now. However, if I ever get to the point where I've put alot of blood, sweat, and tears into my truck, I'll definitely beef-up my policy.

Some companies have an age restriciton on the amount of coverage they will provide. I was told by one company that my 84 S-10 blazer was too old to have coverage for the stereo I had in it.

There is classic insurance which is lower than normal but they have restrictions like driving it to work or shopping plazas etc.

I have American family classic insurance on my camaro. it costs me 350 bucks a year. With their insurance there is no mileage, but you are not supposed to drive it except to shows and "test and tune". You pick the amount you want it insured for. My camaro is insured for 20K. The vehicle must be at least 20 years old. American Family provides all my insurance, so I've never really shopped around. You may find a better deal elsewhere.

I have had alot of trouble insuring my truck. 1. it is old and alot of companys around here don't want to deal with you 2. it has a salvage title on it (big no-no) 3. I'm 17

Now the most fun with insurance we have has is getting our jet-ski insured. NO ONE wants to ensure a boat!!!

The American Classic sounds pretty good. How would they know if you wernt goin to a show or to test it?
I know what you mean about tryin to get a boat insured!! Try doin it on a homemade race boat that is 12 feet long and worth 6 grand!! They say that since it is homemade that it is worthless.

My insurance agent said to tell them I was out testing the car if I was ever in an accident, and as long as I had another "full time" car insured, there would be no problem.

Heh, man I remember how expensive insurance used to be when I was 16, took most of my cash each month. I had one ticket like two days after I got my license and my basic insurnce was 200 monthly, really sucked.

Now at 28 I have full coverage 100/200/100 and only pay 97 a month.
