I'm pretty sure that is a computer controlled carb. If you look at the front top, you'll see where a electrical connector goes. Whatever this carb came from was computer controlled.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

ok so my question now is that since its computer controlled but running with no computer what does that mean do some things not work and i was planning on putting this on my rebuilt 350 would it be a bad carb for any performance? i am kind of clueless at this point.

It won't work right without a computer. It uses the computer to control the metering rods.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

It's not computer controlled. A ccc carb will have a tps connector sticking out of the front drivers side of the carb. There were some carbs made like yours.. with the one connector that usually was used for the mixture solenoid. I don't remember 4sure what your connector is for.. but I think it was something like altitude compensation? Anyway.. it isnt a mixture solenoid connection.. some more research or someone with a better memory should help.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

If I may add my 2 cents. The 170 appears to show your carb was mfg 1975 or later. The 85 appears to show that the carb was a California set up. The 226 appears to show that it was installed on a Chevrolet with an auto. trans.
There's many Q-Jet info sites on the net. Cliff Ruggles from Cliffs High Performance is a great guy and very helpfull. Although he's very busy, he does answer E-mail questions, and even return phone calls. I hope I help rather than confuse.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

This is what I came up with: 17085226

1708=1980's carb
5= 1985
2= federal standards
2=Chevrolet
6=automatic transmission

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

Ah found it. It's a dual capacity pump solenoid. I think it varies the amount of accelerator pump shot.

1985: M4MED electric choke carb with dual capacity pump solenoid used on Federal trucks and various Canadian vehicles

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

I'm not an expert but I do know that GM started putting computer controlled carbs on cars in 1981 or thereabout. The connector that is at the top of the carb is a connector for a computer which you don't have.

I would verify this but I'm nearly 100%.

I would suggest you find a good used carb for your truck and have it rebuild.

I've had good luck with a company called Carb Junkys www.carbjunkys.com. He can answer your question for sure and give you a rebuilt original for about $200.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

I had read about one that had the dual volume acc. pump and im happy to here that is what is it and not a ccc one. now the question is does anyone know what the connector is for? i heard altitude compensation so i think if i ran it without that it would be okay. one more question where can i buy a rebuild kit for this model on qjet? would napa or oreillys have it? or maybe like summitracing or something. thanks for all the replies.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

If you look at the image link I posted you can see there is no mixture control solenoid in that carb. The solenoid it does have opens another jet it looks like. Which is how it controls the accelerator pump shot volume. If it was a computer carb it would have a tps sensor in the carb. 3 wire connector sticking out the front and a solenoid that pulls the primary metering rods down. I've owned a 87 formula with ccc carb since 91 and rebuilt it a couple times. The carb he has was used on trucks and canadian vehicles that had looser emission requirements. I believe it has been covered before on this site.

Re: Q-Jet Questions and some pictures of my 69

You can take that carb # to any parts store & they can get a kit for it. I wouldn't use Orielys though. There kits are junk. Carquest or Napa or good.
