C20 front suspension rebuild?

Anybody have any experience with rebuilding their C20 front suspension? My 68 needs it now. What brand did you use, where purchased. Pretty much needs everything, ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, control arm bolts and bushings...How did you like what brand you used. Thanks.

Re: C20 front suspension rebuild?

You won't go wrong with Moog. That said, I used to use a lot of TRW when I was doing front end work in Texas but can't get that brand here in Washington. Mcquay-Norris or AC Delco are also ok. The main thing is to spend the money and buy the top line parts as most parts houses have a top line and a cheap line. The cheap line being more of get by stuff.

Shop around as there is a lot of difference on prices on chassis parts.

Check www.rockauto.com WWW.Oreillyauto.com and others that come to mind to see what the price comparisons are. If there is a big differ, ence on a same brand item make sure that the part numbers are exactly the same though as if there is a different prefix or suffix that may mean that one is a second line part.

I was going to go with Moog, but wanted to see if there was any other brands that compared well and people had used and were satisfied with. Thanks for the input.

Re: C20 front suspension rebuild?

I'm going through this right now! Been gathering Moog parts for the past month for a total rebuild. I'm going for the best deals I can find. On some items, Amazon has the best prices w/ free shipping. So far I've used Amazon, eBay, Rock Auto. I have found the local auto parts chains - IF - they carry Moog are ridiculously priced. If your not in a hurry - it pays to shop around!!
Oh, and another thing - it's a minefield out there with Chinese parts now being sold by what were once strictly "Made In The USA" Manufacturers.
So far the Moog parts I have acquired are labeled USA made.

As always - your mileage may vary.

FWIW
Moog Part #'s for my '67 C20 pickup

K6097 - Pitman Arm w/manual steering (seems to be N/A from Moog)
K6096T - Idler Arm
K6135 - Upper Control Arm Shaft
K6147 - Lower Control Arm Shaft
K680 - Upper Ball Joint
K6025 - Lower Ball Joint
ES358R - Inner Tie Rod
ES358L - Outer Tie Rod

Re: C20 front suspension rebuild?

Thanks heyjoe. Thats what i've been finding. Bearings, break cylinders... made in China. I'm trying to keep it heavy duty USA at least in the wear parts, but its looking bleak for some things. Unfortunately, I'm trying to get it done before I have to head your way for work after the new year. My trip to Arizona and back towing a travel trailer beat the crap out of my front end I think. Thanks for all the info too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Re: C20 front suspension rebuild?

I am looking at doing the same thing with my C-20. I am tempted to buy the rebuild kit from CPP. Anyone compare pricing going that route v. sourcing each part separately?
