speed warning year? tach, chrome trim w/s? help me
what years could you get a speed warning that were factory?
also made a new score---tach dash from a c-60 only goes to 5k though. got the visors that looked like new with hardware. also the 427 emblems and vents. want to graft them into my hood for my 72 k20. will the chrome around the windshield fit a c/k cab from a c-60? I think so but not sure... what was the purpose of the different 5K and 8K tachs? |

Nice score! Everything I've read on here says the speedwarning dashes were 67/68 with a few possibly being installed in 69. I believe the windshield chrome is the same, but as always you will have to confirm which windshield rubber you need to fit the long or short "foot" on it. All stock tachs are 5k as far as I know. The 8k's are usually grafted in from Camaros. Sharpie

The part that slides into rubber trim has two lengths. You might do a search to find out which gasket you need according to the length. Sharpie

I have the old gasket, how would I measure it? are you talking about the length of the reatainer for the chrome strip that fits into the rubber?
I feel so stupid about this.... |

Yes, the retainer. No need to feel stupid, it's one of those goofy things you never notice until you have the wrong gasket! Best to figure out which one you need before buying new. Sharpie

Lot's of discussion on here about new windshield gaskets. Seems like they can be troublesome. Is your original too rough to use? Sharpie

Re: speed warning year? tach, chrome trim w/s? help me
probably not, just a little rust to be cleaned out. I did not see any cuts, still seemed pliable. should I just re-use it? the glass that was in the truck was broke out and not there. so nobody really messed with the gasket and it was still in the w/s frane with the trim in it. Thought I should replace it, however can it be reused? I did not know if it would seal right... thanks sharpie. I wish I had all your knowledge...

If it's in good shape and fits well I would reuse it. I haven't had much luck with the new gaskets fitting properly, but maybe there have been improvements since I bought one. You might spend a little time searching for threads on them and see what others have to say. This board is overflowing with 67-72 knowledge! Sharpie

Sharpie is right. There are two different gaskets. You need to measure the leg on your trim that inserts into the rubber. The short one is 3/8" and the long one is 5/8". If you get a new gasket get the "Precision" brand or "SoffSeal". LockDoc

The speed warning was available in 67- 68- and 69.
The tach dashes only went to 5k. There are a few diesel tachs floating around that only went to 4K, but they have a mechanical hook up like a speedo. Sounds like you have the WS gasket figured out...
