72 4x4 chassis

I've been looking to convert my 2wd lwb 72 gmc to 4wd along a sm465 w/np205.

I found a 72' 4wd 3/4 ton chevy rolling chassis in good condition with the sm465/205. i havent taken a look yet, but hes asking 1k and I have no idea if thats normal or too high. Given that it really is all in decent shape, is that a fair price?

Re: 72 4x4 chassis

Sounds fair, I would make sure it is a real 4x4 frame and not a 2wd with the running gear changed.

Re: 72 4x4 chassis

how about something like this and sell parts off of it to actually cover your cost.

Re: 72 4x4 chassis

^ That particular one could probably cost more in the long run to fix the running gear issues. I do agree that parting is nice since you have a better chance of running it and knowing the issues. On the other hand, parting it takes considerable time and effort. Seems like only one in 10 people that respond to craigslist ads actually show up.

If the chassis you found checks out, that would probably be the easiest like special K said. The steering unit is different on 4x4 so it'd be good to get that with chassis.

Re: 72 4x4 chassis

Drivelines, shifters, and bumper brackets are a real bonus if they are present. You will be money ahead to buy a clean rolling K20 chassis, opposed to piecing it together. Might even have tow hooks if you are lucky! Sharpie
