Horn problem

I have a grant wheel for my tilt column http://www.grantproducts.com/products/view/109/ and the problem that I am having is with the horn. I have it unplugged for now otherwise it will just honk until the battery is dead. The kit I was told to use is a 3163 and I have followed the instructions to the letter http://www.grantproducts.com/files/i...7508-00-01.pdf

Has anyone been seen this problem and been able to fix it?

Thanks

Sounds like it's grounded somewhere, try this, may be a bit annoying to do but give it a try. ( you may want ear plugs) While everything is mounted plug the horns back in. Now start working backwards from the horn press button on the steering column, keep taking a piece apart until the horns stop, this might help narrow what is grounding them..

who would think a simple thing like a horn could be such a p i n a.

Re: Horn problem

My guess would be the horn press button, if it's not assembled right it would do that, are you able to push the button down?

Re: Horn problem

I agree it sounds like a ground problem, but you may be able to look for it without using earplugs or annoying the neighbors.

When the horn button is pushed, it sends a ground to the horn relay (under the dash). The relay then sends -12V to the horns. It will click audibly when it closes and when it releases.

Unplug the horns and listen for the relay to click while you chase the problem. If it helps, connect a test lamp to the wire that goes to the horns. If it is lit, the relay is closed and the horns would be blowing. If the light is off, the horns would also be off.

Re: Horn problem

grant wheels and beepers have been notoriously bad for the past 45years or so that i've had experience with them

agree that premature grounding is the cause

Same thing I was gonna suggest, I thought of the test light idea but just used the clicking sound to get mine working right. The 1st time you put it together it makes your head hurt trying to figure out how to get everything in there right, but once you figure it out it's much easier the next time around.
