The 65 Has a New Man
I kinda feel like the new boyfriend, Delmo broke up with the 65 and now I am lucky enough to bang her. Hopefully you fellas like the plastic surgery I have planned for this cougar.
Inspired by a jar of Goober strawberry & peanut butter, Brian Stupski helped me take the 65 to a finer level of finish. Of course with Delmo’s Speed Shops expertly constructed chassis and perfect southern California patina there is no way it won’t be a show stopper. Brief list of subtle tricks: Paint; GM Frost beige paint with a tint of olive, touch of pearl and a few lines of strawberry pin striping. 60/40 black accents throughout. Minimal fabrication on the body retaining as much originality and nostalgia as possible. Bumpers filled, painted body color on the bottom to eliminate the reflection of the black top. Possibly an antique nickel finish on the bumper and hardware. Grill is painted body color with expanded metal center. Grill surround will be 60/40 black with a strawberry pinstripe. Side body stripe will be 60/40 black with about a 3/8 of an inch overlap creating a frame around the molding ( new style scallop). Cranberry pinstripe along the top. Marker lights in the hood are removed and made into vent portals for the tornado style snorkel air cleaner. Beige powder coated valve covers will have strawberry scripting. Interior is restored to factory finish. Seat is cranberry leather but retains its stock design with foam reworked to incorporate some lumbar. Carpet is a custom piece of black floor mat rubber in the foot wells but carpet sewn in to cover the hump and continue under the seat. Shortened fender wells in the bed are molded into the bedsides to create a finished look. Middle panels on the bed floor lift to the side exposing the fuel filler neck and allowing people to peak at the detail and finish of the chassis. Cranberry pinstripe added to the wheels. xoxoxo |

Re: The 65 Has a New Man
Havent started on her yet. I have my 57 Bel Air selling at Barrett Jackson tomorrow. Once that one is sent packing then I will redirect the proceeds toward the 65.
When you build the bones as beautiful as you do, it is hard to not make em trailer queens. When I drive it I cringe everytime I hear the rocks hitting the frame! Can't wait to unbolt it and send the parts out for paint. Let me know if you willing to do some of the fab work on the bumpers and inner bed fenders if I ship em to you? Full price of course. |

Re: The 65 Has a New Man
I love the truck as Delmo left it, but I think I love this concept even more.
As for the inspiration from the pb&j jar, I get it completely. I've often thought that those colors do look good together.

Re: The 65 Has a New Man
Not sure who is gonna paint it. I will make it easy for them...I will deliver the individual pieces and assemble it myself. Ray Pickard here locally is a good friend and painted my ghetto fab trailblazer so I will try him first. Referrals?

Welcome!
That truck is awesome and regardless of who's driving her, I glad she's still around. Can't wait to see the updates.
