454 Engine I.D. Question

To see the engine I.D. number on a 454 do you have to remove anything? Or is the number clearly visible?

if it's in the truck it will be a pain, it's behind the driver side valve cover. Might be able to stick your head close enough to read it, get a pen light or maybe a mirror...

The engine is inside the truck. So the valve cover has to be removed for me to see the i.d. number?

Head casting numbers are under the valve cover. Block casting is on the ledge on the back of the block where it bolts to the tranny, driver's side. It'll be facing mostly up, if it's clean you might be able to read it with a mirror. The last 3 digits is probably enough...

The suffix code is on the passenger side ,front of block..on the pass. side head mounting surface..Get the code..and i will look it up for you..

a few #s and then 2 or 3 letters are there.
