what should I offer for rolling chassis

I have a chnace to pick up a 2wd rolling chassis with typical rust no rot. The guy said make an offer what should I offer

Offer 100.00, but go as high as 300.00 if you really need it. What are you after, the frame, suspension, or all of it?

Is it 5 lug with disk brakes? If so, I've seen people asking upwards of $500.00 dollars for them. I tried to sell one a year ago and was only asking $100.00 and couldn't get rid of it. I'd start with $100.00 offer and see where it goes.

100 bucks sounds like a good starting point. if its a 5 lug will be worth more just for the disc brake parts and 5 lug rear. check and make sure the frame horns are straight. let us know what you find.

Hah! I have tried this before, it didn't work Not for a frame mine you.

Good luck with your purchase, if I found a local frame with no rot for $100 I would jump on it!

HMM!! LWB, 8 lug. Last week scrap was $170 a ton here.

Nothing wrong with 8 lug...I think they actually made some that way on purpose. It is nice if you want to use it as a truck. Just make sure its not bent

Two things how much of a pain in the ass would it be to change it to 5 lug. Also how do you go about figuring if it is bent or not

If you want to have five lug truck that setup isn't worth a whole lot to you except the frame looks pretty decent. Basically you would be buying a bare frame with front and rear suspension and axle that you would have to take off and install five lug stuff.
If you did want to go 8 lug it might be a pretty decent base for a truck but unless a guy is towing or hauling loads on a regular basis 8 lugs aren't too popular with the custom truck boys and girls.

Not a big pain in the ass to swap to five lug but you still have to go find a five lug front crossmember and suspension and five lug rear axle and springs. Then it is get busy an unbolt and bolt back on after the frame is cleaned up. If you want it to be a short bed you will have to shorten the frame the required amount. again not impossible as guys here on the board do it all the time but one more thing to do and get right before you go to the next step.

I'd say offer $100 with the cash in your hand at the time if you want it. Let him see the cash when you make the offer. That is probably just about what the whole chassis would bring for scrap metal. Then you might be able to sell the rear axle depending on what it is. I bought a similar axle with 3.54 gears and Posi for 150.00 last year and if it is in decent shape someone will probably buy it if you post it on craigslist along with the hubs and rotors if they are good. You sell what you don't want to buy what you want in these deals.

I might be wrong, but I think a 3/4 ton frame is actually thicker and more heavy duty that a 1/2 ton. I have heard they look the same but that they are thicker. Maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in.
