Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Cool! I had a '73. A ffriend's dad was VP of Head Ski (AMF). We got ours cheap. My friend with the '71 has some rare extras. Not sure if he's still hoarding or not . Thanks for the offer on info. I may just need to pick your brain one day. I ride a '90 FLST I bought new. I ended up with one with the defective left case. I decided to go with an S&S 96".

He was pretty pissed when they eliminated that window in '68 and even more upset when they changed the nose in '69 because his '67 design was eventually deemed "too pretty" compared to the competition. HA HA! I and many others think the "slant nose" is indeed the BEST looking truck design EVER!

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

This Fall I bought what is supposed to be a 1969 GMC. A GM dealership checked out the VIN # and they say it is a 1969. It has the small window in the back. Was it a option in 1969 or could it have been a early 1969 or late 1968 run at the factory and had the window installed???

It would be a 67 cab. Probably had a vin/cab swap at some point.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Proper 67 code # and description of option is A10 , Full-view Rear: (cabs)
from 1967 Chevrolet Price & Facts Book, dated 1st Edition Oct 1966

'67-only. All '69s had the larger window. You cab was either swapped or the original cab was customized.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

Tim's right, no '69's but I'm pretty sure there have been a few documented early-build '68's with the small window ... left over parts from previous model year was the best guess.

It could be a cab swap from a larger truck like a C40/C50, they had small rear windows long after 1967.

Thats true, but from everything I have read the cabs are not even close to the smaller brothers.

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

I love it classic Chevys and Harleys. This thread just keeps gettin better. Here is a pic of the 71 as an Flh, which is how it is now. When I get the superglide together I am going to move the motor and trans over and it will be back to stock once again. and then I will build another motor for the FL. I also came across a pic of the 68 xlh while I was lookin. And we all love pics. And just to try and save the tread alittle, I am going to call the guy about the 67 today, who knows I may give the wife a good reason to get mad at me.

N2TRUX is right. The C/40 and larger cabs share only about 1/2 the same panels with 10-30s. The floor-cowl & front door pillar are different. The fenders & hood bolt up different and the cab monts to the straight rail frames differently. Either way it would be a cab swap.

Both bikes are nice. I like the early Sportsters and really like yours. I would like to have a 66-72 FLH one day. I have another friend that still has his '78 Suoerglide he bought new, still in original paint. He doesn't do anything with it and knows I want it. Maybe some day.
Yeah, trucks and bikes are the best, but this thread is about small windows. Now about that charcoal grille,I see it's a Char-Broil. What model and year? I like grilles.........

Re: 67 Small Rear Window? Whats the story?

I have seen many SPIDS over the years with different descriptions of available options for the 1967 model year truck models ! It appears from the many SPIDS I have seen that the different Mfg plants across the country used their own descriptions of options that sometimes differed from the regular production option codes and descriptions printed in the dealer order guides. The A10 code : Window, Full-View Rear: (Cabs) $40.00 $3.05 $43.05 was used for the models years 1964,1965,1966 & 1967 with no change in cost ! There is no mention of a panoramic window in any order guide between 1964-1967.............just my 2 cents
