67 c30 rear axle question
Hi again..... Did the c30 rear axle come single rear wheel and dual? was the 327 standard? I have been looking at a few 67s recently and want to know what i'm looking at when I go and see the truck. The info about the 67 small window was amazing and I want to see if there is anything I should know before I go and see this one. It seems to be a c30 stepside with a 9' box. It has a large rear window from the pics he posted, and looks single rear wheel. Thanks again

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
the C/30 nameplate covers a lot of styles of truck.
On the lightest end of the badge, (9000 GVW) you have the single rear wheel pick up, 67 - 72 it was avalible as a cab/chassis or a stepside pickup, 9 foot bed only. ( we won't get into the cowl/chassis or the P series) Starting in mid 68, the 8 1/2 foot fleetside bed (longhorn) became another C/30 model. No pick up (fleet or step) ever came with daul rear wheels. Engine options (and standard equipment) was the same as the lighter duty 10 and 20 series with a few small differences. On the CS series trucks, the 250 was baes equipment, and the 292 was optionl. On the CE trucks, the 283 was base in 67, then the 307 in 68 - 72. Optional engines were the 327 in 67 and 68, the 350 in 69 - 72, the 396 in 68 and 69, and the 402 (no matter how it was badged or described) in 70 - 72. There were no 3 speed manuals in 30 series trucks. The 4 speed was the base model tranny in bot CS and CE trucks. Automatis (both TH350 and TH400) were avalible. Some had park, some did not. I don't know what was the deciding factor on that, but it is fact. Misconceptions; not all C/30s were daul rear wheel Not all C/30s had clearance lights (required upon getting the DRW option or a cab/chassis) Small rear window was still a 67 only item there were no 4X4 30 series All C/30 trucks had leaf springs in back, and coils up front There were larger one ton trucks, longer wheel base, bigger whels (optonal) largerr GVW's... the 'one ton' name covered a lot. |

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
Thanks for the info Lognhorn..... here's the Cl ad that the guy posted http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/2173473738.html, just wanted to see what the story was be for I went out and looked at it. I went through all the c30 threads that came up on a search in the 67-72 forum and learned alot but was not sure what was factory. I dont really want something someone mucked up, I like to go for the "original....stock....you know" when I can. If anyone is going to muck it up it should be me. I am waiting on his reply, I'll see what happens. On the other hand the guy with the 67 c10 came downn to $800 which seems like a good deal, but there was alot of body work. Even the passenger bed side was smashed from end to end. If you guys think I should, I can post a thread with the Cl ad and a better description since I drove out and looked at it.

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
From here that truck appears to be the real deal and from how the ad was written I get a good vibe on the seller. He has represented it in as honest a way anyone can in as many words used. None wasted and all informative. The rear will be the round pumpkin with removable cover as well as the differential assembly in front. Should be the HO72 which looks like the HO52 found in 3/4t. Hopefully the truck has the SPID. It looks like a good find.

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
Well I just returned from checking out the c30. You guys were spot on about the seller, he was a real cool guy. He has a bunch of these trucks, and some others that are not 67-72. Anyway the truck was just as he showed and described it. There was no spid, but other than some rust, it is in good condition. It will need some rockers and cab supports but he says that from the cab forward these are the same as the 1/2 tons. I got a few pics of the front and back, since the Cl ad did not show them too well. I really like the look of this thing, I think am going to see if I can get the wife to let me bring it home

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
No. He said that in The Cl ad. He has all sorts of stuff in these two storage units. He even had the fleetside bumbers that I need for my panel truck. He goes out to arizona once a year and rings back bunches of stuff. He was really cool and I am glad that I bumped into him. He is selling a 68 c30 with a nice tool box setup on the back for 6500. If I had that much it would already be in the driveway. here is the Cl ad and some interior pics I took while I was there. I know you guys love pics!http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/cto/2173469860.html

Re: 67 c30 rear axle question
Just to ask, That c30 stepside had a 327 in it. So that was an upgrade according to the info you posted earlier. It also had the large rear window, so that was an upgrade option also. I did not get a pic of it but it had "custom" in script on the doors. It isn't going to steer me one way or the other but I always like to know.
