Well, it depends on who you ask. Ma wanted them out of his hands before he takes anything else apart that he can't remember how to put back together again. He's got the CRS so bad now we're all pretty worried about him. It's so sad when they get like that.

So I went down to Needles, California and brought a trailer full of stuff home.

Here it all is in a pile on my garage floor:

Some old and not so old toolboxes:

All filled with everything imaginable. Some of it is quite old, stuff I remember from when I was a kid in the 60's. More to follow.

This is pretty cool. I had seen it around for a long time, and always thought it was just a bench grinder, but upon further review, I've decided it's some kind of knife shapener. It has a grinder wheel on one end, but on the other it has a smooth steel wheel, and on the top a wetstone that spins much slower. And it's made by Sunbeam, and I believe they make kitchen equipment

That's the big stuff, I've been going through all the individual stuff. I've filled one of those boxes with screwdrivers, another with plyers of all types. Hundreds of drillbits. I'm convinced he never used one twice. Tap and die sets. More C clamps than one person could possibly use, and some early Craftsman vise grips that have a different kind of release then I'd seen.

I wish that Dad still could use all this stuff, but he knows it will all go to good use still.

to me there is always something special about getting the old tools of someone who really knew how to use them.When i inherited my uncles tools after his death, I was tickeld to feath he would have thought of me like that and in some ways it inspired me to be as good a mechanic as he was

I still have my dads old tools. Some of it from the 40's probably. I don't use them but I do have them somewhere.
