I have a '68 cab,that is replacing my '69 cab. I'm swapping my VIN from the '69 to the '68. I will have the VIN tag from the '68, with the SPID/glove box door, that I will not need. The title is missing. The guy I got it from went through a tornado and I'm not sure if the title was in his name.

So, would there be a market for the VIN tag and glovebox/SPID?

I don't think so without a title, unless someone just collected VIN tags & glove box doors. Maybe in a state that doesn't have titles.

i would think so.. that's why people sell cabs only...

I strongly suspect that is not legal. I also know it is routinely done. There may be a legal way of doing that if you had both vehicles titled in your name. In Indiana, there would be a special titled like "Assembled" or possibly "Salvage". I would certainly find out if the truck without a title was ever reported as stolen.

I'll get my son-in-law, who is a police officer, to run the VIN, if possible.

Its illegal to take vins off cabs to sell or transfer but its done ALOT, you could see that by the response to the one thread that was on the parts board about the rivets. I don't care what guys do but there are some that do on here and also the law cares

No doubt that illegal actions are taken. My son-in-law is from R.I. His 10-year old vehicles don't even require a title. After seeing how they rust, I know why.

Down here, it's not the same.

I have a nephew who bought a truck in GA, that had an Alabama title. When he went to register it, he found out that his title had already been used in Tennessee.

If I can get a duplicate title for the VIN on my cab, I'll deal with it like that. If not, I'm transferring my VIN to the new cab and buying the rosette rivets to seal the deal.

So, should I plan on buying an extra pair of rivets to sell with the VIN and such?

i just read through that thread and i had NO IDEA something like that would be illegal... wow.. i will keep that in mind, and i also reverse my earlier comment!! haha.
