New Cab Mounts!!

I finally replaced my cab mounts. I got the kit from ClassicParts.com that included the hardware for my c/20. After reading through threads on the board here, I was expecting the front cab mount bolts to be spot welded to the body, but they were not. All of the bolts loosened very easily thankfully :-)

I don't think I got the wrong kit, but the only piece of the hardware portion of the kit that I used were two washers. I guess I could have used the two new rear bolts, but for the life of me I could not get the new ones to thread, so I used the old bolts with the pointed head, which threaded very easily back into their home. I will post pics of before and after.

The four cab mounts took me about 45 minutes to replace. I still need to complete the radiator core mounts.

Is your side trim now misaligned?

I did mine 15 years ago using poly bushings, and they still look like new.

The trim is now aligned a little better, which is nice. I went with rubber because every poly bushing that I have ever used squeaks like a mother. It rides so much nicer now too, almost like a sports car lol.

How did you get the front mounts out?
Were you able to slide the bolt up?
I tried to do mine this weekend and there is no way I can lift the cab up to clear the bolt to install the fronts.

I got the back done without any issues.

Can anyone vouch for a 'ride/handling' difference between rubber/poly?

Theres some new rubber ones on the board for sale too btw

You have to remove the carpet or at least fold it back out of the way and then pull the front cab bolt all the way out. I do beleve i also had the radiator out as well to remove the rad support bolts.

I used 3 jacks and some blocks of wood and did one side at a time, one jack by the rear mount, one by the front and another up by the radiator, i raised each jack in about 1" incriments as nessasary to get each mount out and replace them then slowly lowered it back into place.

Oh, I did mine with the front clip installed..

It wouldn't hurt to do a little wire brushing a Por-15 around the mount area while your at it..

There is more than one type of mount depending the truck so do your research.

Poly is a little harder so they can develop a bit of a squeek and they may ride a little harder, but they will last longer. Rubber being softer gives a bit more in the bumps and does not develop the squeak.. Now how long they last? if the rubber makes it 30 years then thats what i'm gonna use..

Unfortunantly i havent been driving my truck as its still a bit in pieces... )

But think about it, old collapsed and split mounts Vs New taller mounts, i'd say maybe a little, but most of the ride is in the suspension.

Don't know if it's just in my mind, but it seems to feel a little more stable.

I have had two trucks come into my shop that used urithane mounts and one of the bolts had pulled through the floor when driving up to Capitol Forest. The chassis are designed to be flexible and the bodies are not. Rubber mounts were used so the bodies wouldn't flex with the chassis. WES
