Bad Ball Joint
I'm sure glad I didn't just slap on some lowering spindles and jam. I took every thing appart and cleaned things up and found this the BJ on the left has been through some kind of punishment. I don't think it was from using the BFH but something happened. So when your just popping on some spindles and ready to lowride think again.

Re: Bad Ball Joint
Did the same here, I spent more time cleaning and replacing than lowering on my suspension.

Re: Bad Ball Joint
very good advice indeed.
I was lucky enough to have spare control arms when I lowered my suburban. I had them blasted and powdercoated, then had new bushings and ball joints installed. I also bought tie rod ends and brake components. Most parts were not bad, but suspension parts for these trucks are cheap and it's really money well spent in the long run. Just my two cents.

Re: Bad Ball Joint
These trucks are plenty old enough to need a suspension rebuild. These parts dont last forever and are often overlooked. Its a huge safety thing. IF a ball joint comes apart the wheel will come off and you will crash.

Re: Bad Ball Joint
I just got back from Autozone with some new ball joints The new ones are cast vs the older replacement ones in the picture are pressed steel. I'm thinking the cast ones will be more durable. I was going to put it back together wirh the ones shown above until I found the cracks. I did try out the energy suspsension dust seals (9.13126G) for the 89 model 1500 and the upper seals would have fit nicely. The lower seals won't fit. I should be able to get the front end back together tomorrow, or at least on wheels again.

Re: Bad Ball Joint
Dont Trust Duralast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I picked up some ball joints from Autozone last night. These have to be one of the most dangerous products I've purchased from them. The fasteners supplied are very poor quality, likely Chinese fasteners that wouldn't even be worth putting on furnature. Far less than grade 5 and should be grade 8 to put on ball joints. Yes that bolt is stripped! I'm taking them back tomorrow and buying AMERICAN MADE!! Last edited by 1LowToy; 02-12-2011 at 10:17 PM. |

Re: Bad Ball Joint
Dont plan on lowering my truck but I do plan on rebuilding the front end and maybe adding a swaybar down the line. Last few suspension parts I bought from NAPA had Moog written all over them
