68 4X4 Suburban axles?
Just writing to see if anybody has suggestions for replacement axles for a stock 68 1/2 ton 4X4 suburban. Would like to get rid of the front drums and keep it 6 lug due to the number of rim setups I have in the shop.
plans mostly to be used for snow driving and light off road use. Steal a set with disks out of a newer burb or blazer ?????? Thanks in advance! Chad

Re: 68 4X4 Suburban axles?
That's what I'd do! Anything to get away from that closed knuckle stuff. '71 and up but I think if you go '73 and newer the spring perches are further apart in the rear and the shock mounts are different, so that would have to be modified. It would probably just make more sense to swap only the front axle, find one with the same gears of course, and just rebuild your existing rear.

skoffice thanks for the advise!
I'm interested on keeping it easy and on the road for now without front drums.

Re: 68 4X4 Suburban axles?
I hear ya! If I had a 4x4 burb I would drive the heck out of it! Those old drums in front don't make for a very fun experience hah. You will have to change your proportioning valve too, cuz the one you have right now is just the distribution block and the front calipers require less pressure. I'm pretty sure you can get a D44 from anything up til the mid 80's, so that gives you a lot to choose from!
