Manual to Auto trans swap and WTB T/C mounts

I am in the process of swapping out the original manual trans in my ’71 K10 to a TH350. I bought a married TH350/NP205 that I want to directly replace. I was told the Trans/T-case were tight and that it came out of a ’72 Blazer. It was only $250 so I couldn’t pass up the offer. I am going to have both units gone through before the swap, just to be safe.

What all do I have to do/buy to make this a clean job?

Where can I buy new T-case mounts?

Thanks in advance for the info.

You are going to an automatic because of a manual transmission clutch failure that happened on the beach/desert dunes? Centerforce makes great clutches that would be 10X stronger than any TH350/NP205 combination any day of the week. It will cost you a lot more to fix an overheated TH350 when you let the smoke out of it at the beach/dune over the clutch in manual trans.

If you are just flat out tired of shifting a manual in California traffic why bother with a TH350 and not go directly to something more modern where you can archive overdrive and save some gas while you are spending the time and money on a trans swap anyway? Most peeps are litterally throwing away TH350’s and going to 700R4’s as they make for great swaps as well as electric 4L60E and 4L80E’s which both can be modified to work with a NP205 tcase.

Re: Manual to Auto trans swap and WTB T/C mounts

Thanks for the input on upgrading the TH350. A 700R4, electric 4L60E, and 4L80E are all good suggestions.

The reason I want to get away from shifting is because of driving in busy traffic. I don’t plan on pulling or using it as an off-road wheeler so I really don’t feel it’s necessary get a top of line tranny. I want to beef up the TH350a little, so it should hold up. The truck is stock and it’s going to be a weekend driver.

I just wanted a little heads up on what the job entails.
