how is everybody installing CD players in thier trucks. I have broken down and decided to cut the dash, but I am wondering how to install the CD player. Whats the best way to get to the wiring? is the only way from the bottom, or does the top of the dash come off. And how are they CD players held into place, without any type of rails for the player to screw into the sides?

cut small then file the rest off. Mine fit just fin and tight did not need any brackes just what came with the radio.

Maybe remove the Glove box, and some air vent hoses. That will give you more room to see. That what I did, but I was installing a Cassette player side posts.

You should just be able to slide it in the hole you cut in the dash. Most CD players come with a harness that plugs into the back of the player. Just take the harness off the player, make all of your connections, then slide the player in, and hook up the harness and radio antenna. I did mine back around christmas.....it only took me 45 minutes or so.

I'm installing mine in the glovebox. I bought an original chrome AM radio to put back in the dash. My truck has an AC glovebox liner and I'm using the box portion with some brackets on the back side to hold the CD player. I will post pics when I'm done.

I agree with the glovebox install...
Most newer stereos come with a remote.
I found an IR repeater from a marine radio shop, and will be able to control the stereo w/ remote w/ glovebox closed.
Custom Autosound makes am RF controlled stereo, but you get half the features, and twice the price of a good Best Buy unit...
The IR repeater was $33.
I just like the sleeper look, with Hot Rods, and stereos I guess.

I put ours in the glove box also. And when some punk is walking down the street looking to make some drug money. He will look for the radio and see an old a$$ AM deck and keep walking.

And will not even know there is a $300.00 system in the truck.:p

I ended up installing a CD player where the original radio was installed. The dash had already been cut from a previous radio install. I don't worry to much about someone stealing it because the truck is in my driveway when home and I have a big dog. At work, security always has guns on them and you can't get in unless your an employee. The deck also has a removable face. I'm still trying to figure that out. I guess if you took the face off and put it in the glovebox it would be out of sight. I don't think anybody wants a radio if it doesn't have a faceplate. The CD player is an Alpine low end. I don't like the super busy faces on most of the CD player available now and this one serves my purpose well.
