painting full 68 wheel covers

I saw the thread recently about repainting some models of hubcaps. Has anybody here repainted their 67-68 full wheel covers and, if so, can you describe or post photos of what you did? The PO apparently brush re-painted mine at some point, but I would like to do something that passes more than the 10 foot test and I am not an experienced painter. Thanks.

Re: painting full 68 wheel covers

Here is what I would do. Since they are chrome or Stainless, I would tape off around the areas that need the color. Scuff up those areas with some scotch bright pads back down to the chrome/stainless. Pull the tape and wash really well with soap and water. Go get a can of Bulldog Adhesion promoter and re-mask the same areas. Spray mist coats of the bulldog 2-3 coats should do the trick. Let 5 min. go by between each coat. Let it dry for about 10 min. Then use some satin/semi-gloss black for the black areas and whatever color for the other areas with the same style of mist coats. Let dry 20 min. and if you want to, apply a clear, if not pull the tape and there ya go. Trevor
