here's my scenario with starting up. thoughts welcomed

so in the mornings when i start my truck up with 1 pump of the gas it starts right up and the high idle kicks in and stays running until i kick it down when semi warm. well from the time i get to work around 8:30 until i leave for lunch at 12, it seems that the high idle doesn't kick back in. it takes about 2-3 tries for it to start and then i have to baby the gas for a minute or two to just keep it running.

how long does it take for the high idle to reset itself if you will, or what can i do to rectify the problem?
