Another TV cable thread...help!
Okay, I did a search first, but didn't find an informative thread that answers my question/questions.
Quick background... 1976 2wd Blazer with a 350 small block that I have recently installed a 4L60 (not an "e") trans with the Bowtie Overdrive kit to control the overdrive with a cruise control style brake switch. I have run into a small issue with getting the correct TV cable bracket. I have a Quadrajet carb, but it says on the body of it that it was "built by Carter for GMC" and it seems to have the proper connection points for the TV cable (I've attached a picture so someone who knows this stuff can verify, hopefully). But, the ole '76 doesn't have a bracket in place for the TV cable as it had a TH400 prior to this install. Can one of you trans. fella's point me in the right direction for the correct bracket? Recap... Carb. appears to have the correct mounting point for the TV cable, but the truck doesn't have a bracket to facilitate the 4L60 TV cable. |

Seems like the simplest way to do it is build your own if you're handy with sheet metal. Or 20 bucks for a house brand bracket at a parts store.

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
I got mine from BTO with the cable and linkage kit, but it was for a edelbrock 1406. Do they offer one for the quadrajet?

Somewhere, yes, they do offer a different bracket for the Edelbrock. I just don't remember where I've seen them for sale.

Here is there page with brackets and other stuff. They dont list a kit for a 1705, they do for a 1905 however. Could that be the number on the carb? They are 129 with the standard cable and 159 with a braided one. I purchased the braided line kit for my edelbrock 1406, got it setup and called them to verify the pressures. Everything was spot on and I have not had to touch it in 8 yrs. I would highly recommend getting one of those, just in case you need another bracket or something. It will be cheaper than having the trans rebuilt if its not adjusted right.....

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
From the picture I'd say your carb is a Quadrajet built by Carter, It's not a Carter AFB (Edelbrock) carb. Give us a shot of the complete carb.

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
Yes you did! I was concerned someone would post up a part number for an Edelbrock (AFB) style carb that wouldn't help you at all.

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
700R overdrive transmissions use a "TV" cable that adjusts transmission pressure in relation to throttle position. Older transmissions used a "Kick-Down" cable, the 700R uses a different setup. Adjustment/position of the cable is critical for 700R's.

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
I mentioned the edelbrock b/c thats what I have experience with. The links I posted are for quadrajets though, sorry for causing any confusion. I know how well the BTO kits work from using the one on my carb, they are expensive yes, but work extremelly well......
Did you get it fixed?

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
I haven't had any time to even look at the ole boy, but I'm going to probably just modify the stock throttle bracket and the throttle bracket from the donor truck and have me a hybrid bracket. Dang all that high dollar business... I'm poor

Re: Another TV cable thread...help!
Well, I finally got around to fooling with the Bull last week and my modified bracket just wasn't fitting the bill. So, I did a little more research and found a very economical solution. TCI part # 376700 is a TV Cable Bracket for a 700R4/200R4 with a Quadrajet carburator. $21.36, 4 days of waiting around for the Fed Ex man, and 20 minutes of install time later...Poof, the ole boy works like a charm. Hell, I wished I had found that bracket 4 months ago, but I wasn't to motivated. But it's all good now
