Re: 72 valve covers
By '72, GM had pretty much moved away from oil filler tubes in the manifold. As a result, most factory valve covers had three holes -- two for emission control and one to add oil.
Check out Summitt Racing or Jegs. They each have OEM type valve covers available.

Re: 72 valve covers
a 4X4 had a fill tube on the cover with a brace as the OP described. I used to have a photo but I lost it in a nasty computer death.

Re: 72 valve covers
I had a 72 that had an oil fill tube in the valve cover. I have seen the for sale in the classifieds.

Re: 72 valve covers
excellent , so i am to think the long fill neck is normal for both 2 and 4 wheel and this is what i should be picking up ? or was the fill just a cap on the cover ? thanks to all replying

Re: 72 valve covers
I believe that the tall fill tube had to do with having power brakes (booster & MC in the way) as opposed to 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive. My Burb was non power brakes stock and just had a fill cap on the valve cover.

Re: 72 valve covers
I have a 72 K20 and the valve covers were really crappy. It has the 350 and I want to keep it as stock as possible. I ordered these from summit;
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-9916/ made by Trans-Dapt Performance Products 9916 - Trans-Dapt Performance OEM Reproduction Colormatch Valve Covers and they are exactly like the originals even the powdercoat is very close to the original orange. I have had them side by side and looks like they were stamped by the same machine. good luck Navysnipe |
