LQ4/LQ9 4l60 Gas Mileage, 72 4x4 k5

This is a question for anyone who has converted to an lq4 or lq9 or any ls for that matter. I am trying to find out about what gas mileage i could expect from installing these in a 72 4x4 k5. does anyone out there who has already done this know about what to expect on average? with gas prices going up, i am not sure if I want to do the LQ4 or go to an LM7. Thanks all.

Haven't done it, but would like too. If you're looking for gas mileage, then I'd go with the 5.3L as that's what I have in my '05 sub, and I can get as high as 21 mpg on the highway with a light foot. I don't think you'll ever see a 6.0L get that unless it's in a Vette!

We have the 6.0 in my wifes Yukon XL denali and it will get 18-20 on the hwy without much headwind or with a tail wind and about 16 into a wind. That is in a 6000 lb truck with awd. I would think loosing 2000 lbs would vastly improve the mileage.

My LQ9 in '71 K5 with 4"lift, 35" MTs, 4L60e, 4.10 gears, no top and a medium foot gets about 10.5mpg overall. Local with some highway driving. That was 1-2 months after the rebuild...I haven't checked it lately but I doubt it's changed much.

It's too easy to get on the gas because it moves and sounds good!
