Dual rear suspension?
Finally got a good look under my new truck and noticed something i've never seen before. The truck had both coil springs and what looked like helper leafs. The trailing arms also had what looked like a reinforcement plate acrossed the bottom. Is that standard on a C20? I also have a heavy duty bumper that looks like it was built for towing heavy trailers. Was there a camper special option back in 63? The more I look at this truck the more it intrigues me.

Ive had coil sprung trucks with an overload, and i know the later c20s got them at least, and i think one of my half tons has it as well. And the c0s got the added plate for the arms as well, at least on the later trucks as far as i know.

My 65 had pockets/mounts for helper springs but no springs.

Aerotruck63 posted up a standard OEM option sheet from back in the day, check out Post #9 on this link: Helper Spring
 There were a set of these on my truck when I bought it. The PO said he hauled (2) big block chevy engines with no problems. The thing I didn't like about them was they are made for a stock height truck. Since mine is lowered whenever I hit a decent bump in the road these helper springs would engage and bounce you such that you would about hit your head on the freakin roof! They were the first thing I took off my truck. When I took them off I found that some of the springs were actually broken. You can accomplish extra load carrying capacity, with no side effects, on a coil spring truck with a set of air lift assist springs that mount inside the rear coil springs.

There was also a Timbren rubber cushion available for the trucks. I talked to Timbren and they made the cushions for GM but not the brackets.
