Re: Did they use rose bud vin rivets on a 79?

Well here's where it gets tricky.....I have the title for the body, not the frame. The frame has been changed and I don't have a title for that. So how would i go about that? Go check for stolen on the frame put it in the paper and do it that way?

That is all up to your state. In mine the chassis determines the VIN of the vehicle and not the cab VIN number so you would be up a creek without a paddle. In other states it is the other way around.

My state would ask for proof of legal purchase of the frame to prove you purchased it. They would also do the research into the donor vehicle history and see what happened to the frame donor to make sure no foul play was involved. If it comes back stolen they would impound the truck and have a serious chat with you.

Do you have the VIN plate that came off your truck? You could take just the cab to them and show them that it fell apart and does belong to the cab and get a new assigned VIN plate attached to the cab to make it legitimate again. What frame you put it on shouldn't matter to them.

I don't believe the truck cabs have a hidden VIN that they can double check to see what the VIN of the cab is supposed to be. The only one I know of is on the frame and since you say that is not from your truck I think you are out of luck there.

I really doubt they will take the VIN on the SPID in the glove box as proof of VIN for the cab but you never know. It's worth a shot. Do you have the original glove box door still on there with an intact SPID label?

Re: Did they use rose bud vin rivets on a 79?

no glove box SPID label it's been long gone before i had it. And i've tore the truck apart looking for a hidden vin and there is not one to be found. The only ones i have are on the frame and from the title. It's the correct title just don't know what they will pull off of the cab or the frame. It's not a huge deal i can plate it and do everything just don't have a vin tag (witch is illeagal) and if i get in a wreck i don't wanna be like that other guy and get it repo'd, although i think i would play the well if you want the frame you can have it but im taking the rest game lol
