PO bondoed the door mirror holes, can I tap and thread them?
or should I look for a different style of mirror with a different attachment place. (He also just painted the truck so I don't want to really patch it or do any metal work.)

shure can just drill close to size not too big tap out should go easy bondo taps easy compaired to metal

Who sells the backing plates?? I have the same issue with my truck.. Want to put the stock round mirrors back on

i found them here:
http://www.gmcpaulstruckparts.com/Exterior.htm or you can make your own as i did with a piece of 1/4" flat bar drilled and tapped.

I couldn't find the backing plate when I was looking...I just used some nuts on the inside...not the best option, but it works for now since mine is just in primer.

I got mine, mirrors and backing plates from classicparts.com very easy to install.
