Re: I need a hug.....

Might sound crazy but if they're new I'd hit the bent one with a punch.

Last time I did a top end the set of head bolts I purchased were not hardened and snapped off on me when I was torquing them so I'm cautious now.

Re: I need a hug.....

I had a buddy with a fresh 427 that bent, not one, but 2 sets of push rods. It was built by a local shop and the first time it hapenned, a friend who builds and races 1/4 mile cars said "cheap parts"... "Replace them with a set of good quality - hardened push rods". The shop who built the engine replaced them with the same product and, surprise, surprise, it hapenned again. Replaced them with good quality pieces the second time and he hasn't had an issue since. It seems to me, by his response, that this is something that happens fairly frequently. Not sure if this story helps but thought I would share.

Your truck looks great BTW... I hope you get this figured out quickly so you can get back to enjoying it.

Re: I need a hug.....

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully it won't be nothing to serious. Your truck looks solid with a nice stance.

Re: I need a hug.....

UPDATE Got the heads off and not as bad as it could have been. On the right side two bent exhaust valves and on the left side one bent exhaust valve. Ordered new valves, should be here next week and hopefully put back together soon

Re: I need a hug.....

Is your heads going to need any machine work or are they good to go?

x2 on at least its better than having your valves kissing your piston!

Do you know why it happened yet?

The heads are at the machine shop now, the guy at the machine shop said the heads should be fine. And I still don't know what went wrong but all you can do is keep on going.

Re: I need a hug.....

I could only think something with a pushrod like everybody else was mentioning.

If it were timing chain you probably woulda smacked all of em.

Re: I need a hug.....

Its possible that the valve guides were too tight and caused the valve to stick. My machinist just got done stripping my new Edelbrock heads cause they were so tight that he said it would have for sure stuck an exhaust valve.
