Floor mat & underlayment
Did trucks that came with the rubber floor mat also have a heavy tar like sheet material under that and a white foam pad under that? Not sure if the foam is original. ??
Here's a pic showing the foam, I had already pulled up the tar sheet material which sat on top of it. Thanks, Bob

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
68 C20 had the tar mat on the metal floor, white foam on top of that, then rubber mat. looks to be the same foam as mine.

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
I think that would make more sense. Maybe someone had mine out and put back in wrong?
Anyone else?

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
Thanks, that's the way it's going back together then. I haven't found the foam yet but the other items are available.

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
For some reason that foam reminds me a lot of the underlayment that is used for laminated wood flooring, i'm not too sure if it's exactly the same but it looks awfully similar.

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
From what I can tell the older trucks like the 67's had the tar right on the metal floor. That is why you nearly have to use a chizel to remove it sometimes. On all the 72"s i have seen the foam is under the tar which is good because you can lift up the foam and remove it in tact and reuse it if possible.

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
Dang you guys made me go out in the dark but...walla!
Floor, stock sound deadener (tar-mat), foam and rubber mat on top. Stock 1968 C-10 The mat is not glued to the floor but seems to have an oil-impregnated paper coating on both sides; not sticky at all. Almost resembles an expansion joint used in concrete work, but thin. Last edited by ETsC10; 03-22-2011 at 01:43 AM. Reason: added info |

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
My 71 had the mat, tar, then the white foam on the metal. My dad bought the truck in 1972 and the mat had not been pulled out before I took it out. As evidence of this, under the foam I found a brand new plastic indicator plate for the key switch that the guy at the factory must have dropped. It was very neatly imbedded in the white foam next to the tranny hump.

Re: Floor mat & underlayment
Wow, now we have it both ways.
Guess I'll take my pick as to how I want to put it back.
