who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

So I just bought a 65 shorty fleet side factory 4x4 and it has 4 inch blocks in the rear and a 3 inch body lift with 38x15.5 R15 tires. I want to do a suspension lift only no body lift.. who sells a lift for me to run about a 40 inch tire with clearance, cus most lifts ive seen only go back to 1970s trucks. My question is who sells a (Suspension) lift that will tuck atleast 40s and pics and info of your truck with 40s or bigger would be appreciated. Thanks
here is a pic of my truck on 38s

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

Yeah get rid of the body lift and the blocks... For a lift, if you are serious about offroading do yourself a favor and get springs from Alcan. They will custom make a set of lift springs for your situation. they will run more than a kit. But thye will be made for your truck and needs.

Just search Alcan springs they are in grand Junction CO and are extremely popular with all the 4x4 and hauling guys around here.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

Honestly im going more for looks im not an extreme 4wheeler. I love the look of the shortys lifted up on some nice fat tires.. So im just looking for a nice inexpensive suspension lift for atleast 40s without bodylift.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

If you just want to drive it, swap the rears to the63" springs and the fronts to the 52". There are places that sell the spring hangers and the springs come from the JY. It will smooth out the ride and possibly give the lift you're looking for at the same time.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

When you say 63 and 52 is that the year of the truck i need to steal them from.. if so how much lift will that give me?
I was reading on another ad that the 68-72chevy spring wont work but i saw a really short about a 73-87 chevy "could possibly" work if i change the hanger?? Is there any pages on here that give a run down on what needs to be done to swap it to make newer 1973-87 suspension work on my truck?
From what I can see my truck has a 3inch body lift and a 4inch lift blocks in the rear.. but do the 4x4 trucks come with the 4inch block in the rear from the factory or is it lifted 4inches???

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

I would imagine any spring shop could make you a set... probably difficult to find something off the shelf, unless the lengths just happen to be identical to a newer model.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

The blocks in the rear are factory. No one makes a lift kit for these year trucks.
52 inch spring for the front and 63 inch spring for the rear , now 52 are rear spring that you put on the front witch give you a 4 inch lift the 63 are late model spring for the rear used with a shackle flip will give you 4 inch lift if you really want anything more you have to go with custom spring as already mention then you open another can of worms with steering you will have to do a cross over and hope you wind up with a death wobble.
Just google and do alot of reading

Member 62 short step has done this swap using 73-87 springs and hangers. Contact him or check out his stats on his public profile and look for threads started by him.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

Where do I get the 52 and 63 spring from is that a custom length I need to buy or do they come in a kit for a differenr year?? My truck already has a 4inch block in the rear so are you saying it will lift it an additional 4inches front and rear?

Noob question: are the newer leafs wider or more narrow than the 60-66 springs?

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

I think the 62 -63" springs are from the newer '92 and up trucks. The 52" springs that I'm going to use are from the rear of my '63. I'm just going to move them to the front and replace them with the 62" springs from the later model. I see them all the time on C.L. or you can get them from a JY. I like the idea of getting them from someone who has put a lift on a newer truck and is trying to get some of their money back. I think the stock springs are going to ride a little better too. As far as the width of them, I'm not too sure as I do know that they used different widths throughout the years.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

If you want more lift than four inches of lift you will have to have custom springs made.

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

My truck has a 4 inch lift block in the rear from the factory because its a 4x4. so my question is will this mod lift it up an additional 4 inches (to give it a total of 8 inchs of lift or will it be the same lift just no blocks??

Re: who sells liftkits for a 65 4x4

There is many ways of doing lifts on 4x4, honestly if you ask 10 people you will get 10 different answers so you need to do search and research and a lot of reading.

I agree completely. There is usually not a "secret formula" for building these trucks unless your an engineer or something. I've always used the trial and error method and while not particularly fast, it works for me. If I can't readily find a part, I snag it from another vehicle, do alot of searches or my just make something that will work. That's what modifying and/or fabricating is all about. Google and Bing! Good luck
