get layed

Got mine front back together yesterday took a few days w/ all the painting. Painted a-arms body color, frame hammertone silver, and a few brackets etc. flat black. The sway bars front mounts are layed on the ground. Took the rear wheels off and let the jack down, drive shaft crossmember hit the ground and the pinch wells were about 1" off the ground. Should lay hard once I relocate crossmembers and bag the back. Started cutting out all the rear wood floor and tubs this afternoon. By the way this is on a '72 Suburban w/ 20's, 1.5" crossmember drop(Capt's way), 2.5" spindles, and 2600# bags w/ just the upper plates. Will post some pics as soon as I get them. Later

Biggg notch

I think it's going to have to be around 9" of actual notch, haven't really put a tape to it yet. Going to notch it Saturday gotta go get some 3"3" box to build the notch tommorrow and try to get the rear floor cut out before Saturday. already torched out the old springs and bumpstop mounts. Later

I did a 11 inch notch to let the frame sit on the ground with my 29 inch tall tire. I need to upload pics of my suburban!

I had an FBI 10" step notch and when layed out, I still had 5" or so of clearance. I could have gone down 1-2" more but my driveshaft bottoms out under the cab.

BTW, that's w/ 245/35/ZR20 tires.

tierods

On my front steering after the crossmember drop my tierods are bent from sitting on the pitman arm and idler when layed all the way out. It looks like I can just have it aligned like this w/ it raised to cruise height. They are not bent excessively so I think it will be o.k. Just wanted another opinion. I only dropped the member 1.5" so I wasn't expecting clearance issues there. Should I flip the tierods or leave it alone.

I went through the pics, and all I had that was close to what you want is this one. I'll give my bro the camera to take one of the motor mounts. Let me know if there are any other views you guys want.
Thanks grnddwn!

one of the best post in this thread ! beside's all the good info.
I think a small cross member notch with a small "Z" would look the best , allthough over all it would be more work I think it would be less modifacation's.
gotta keep in mind these guy's were run'n 29" tall tire's back then, I think most of us have taller tire's these day's.
