Well I finally went and did it .... Another build is started..
I started rebuilding the cab on my 63 short bed yesterday ...This was my daily driver when I was living in Maine til I took a job in Michigan.. I was driving this truck until sept. of 1997 ,brought it to Michigan a year or so after that and it sat behind my garage of the first house I rented til we moved in 2002..
Luckily the house I bought had 2, 2 car garges an it has been stored since then .. Sunday I threw a battery in and after fixing a few gas leaks it ran fine and manuvering it between the door and my other project , with 1/2 inch to spare on each side it saw daylight for the first time .... Funny I never remembered the steering to be so hard to turn , must be having power steering for 10 years makes one soft .. surprisingly the brakes still worked .. Now to stayu with the project till it is done .. the goal is to drive it by fall .. I have not decided whether to leave it looking like a rat rod and just get to driving it .. or making it look straight and worrying that my kids are going to run bikes into it.. It might be a good idea to get it solid again and on the road and just enjoy it til I get tired of how it looks and then do the bodywork up nice .. I will have to see how long it takes and go from there .. also I may update the steering and brakes but all in due time... photos are in my photos.... |

well I have the passenger side mocked up.. I have done many of these in the past plus a few back halfs and I find with each one you look and ponder more than you cut and weld .. I did get a few more tools over the last few days ... I found my panel flanger and hole punch was missing so I went to Harbor Freight and bought a new one , it has already paid for itself .. Also a new 4 1/2 angle grinder because my air compressor is loud and I dont have to wait for air .... just not enough room to upgrade to the compressor I want ... |
