I commute 85 miles round trip to work in my trucks. That said, I run 3.08 gears in all the trucks I build. That's 2wd trucks with 28 inch tall tires and non overdrive transmission. That gives me a nice highway cruise RPM and they will still burn tires as long as you want on take off with a plain old small block. It's a combination that pleases me so I repeat it on every build.
Personally, I hate 3.73 gears and non overdrive transmissions. I see no reason to spin the engine that tight going down the highway. If I can smoke the tires in 2 gears with 3.08 gears, I don't feel the need for any more bottom end.

actually i have the auto haha so its even worse but it still beats loosin my pay check on gas in the truck haha but when i do drive the truck i love it that much more.

Guess im pretty much set on the 3.08. Now i just need to find one around me... and cheap... research time.
