Re: Just wanting opinons and statements
For good ground clearance, I'd look at something shorter than a crew.
For durability, you'll want something with a 14-bolt full floating rearend and a Dana 60 up front. You'll find more info than you can read at Pirate 4X4 http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/index.php Too bad you're so far away, I have a '78 short stepper with no engine or tranny I'd make you a smokin' deal on... Used to be a squid, spent my time hauling Marines around. I actually ran a calibration lab/micro-miniature repair lab. When we made a WestPac cruise and picked up a couple of squadrons of choppers and Harriers, they sent along their own techs. Those guys were incredible, we were underway less than a week when they had cleared the shelves of all the work that had been piling up on us. I appreciate what you're doing for us and the Japanese, I'm sure you'll have some incredible stories for your children some day. Carry on, Marine. |

Re: Just wanting opinons and statements
A few years ago I saw on a episode of Extreme 4X4 ware they built a rig they called Suburban Gorilla. It was a mid 80s diesel Suburban that they replaced the body with a aftermarket hummer body. They also moved the motor/ trans/ transfer case back to work with the new body also had solid axles and had 38" tires It was a hell of a rig!
and if all else fails LOL... Thank you for your service and come home safe.

Re: Just wanting opinons and statements
if you have the knowledge and tool's, consider a surplus HMMWV , an old 998 would be relativley cheap, if the hood is good every thing can fab'd or modified to suit your need's. any chevy motor and trans will fit right in there.
one of these day's I'm gonna get one , put a body lift,40" tire's and a BigBlock in it.

Re: Just wanting opinons and statements
You need a crew cab with a short box. That would work.
