Re: 66 Sub

I've put about 125 miles on the Sub in the last few weeks, and it's been great. It's nice to be able to just enjoy driving it. Next up is the 360 mile trip across Montana to its new home.

We also emptied the whole thing out to see if there was anything else we were missing, but there were no surprises (good or bad). The fuel tank needs replaced. It has several dents and a fairly large JB weld patch job. We'll have to figure out what tank to put in. The build sheets are gone, which is too bad.

Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with how this thing is turning out.

Here are a couple pics of the engine bay. The whole engine is painted orange, and doesn't appear to have the stock valve covers. It makes me wonder if the engine has been overhauled at some point.
Nice Burb. Frame is wider in the rear than a pickup, a 92-95 caprice wagon poly gas tank will fit. 22 gallons. I added a couple angle irons for the straps. Let me know if you want a photo...Ed

My application I have a 62 panel 1/2 ton with coil springs. 36" in between frame, 92 caprice wagon polyethylene fuel tank used I grabbed all the extras fuel fill, and straps. added 3 2"x2" steel angle iron 41" long to hang the straps front and back. Hope This helps. Let me know if you need further info... Ed.

Re: 66 Sub

That is some good info that will help those with the '60-'62 pickups, Suburbans and Panels that are looking for an inexpensive rear mount fuel tank. Looks like it fits in there rather well too. Did you remove the in tank fuel pump?

Unfortunately it doesn't look like it will fit the '63-'66 pickups, Suburbans or Panels.

Re: 66 Sub

I did remove the fuel pump, added a strainer/filter. 10 years later, I still need to add a late model fuel/ gas gauge to get correct OHM. So 62 was the last year of the X frame with wider frame in the back?.
