Who has the best quality rocker panels?
I need to replace my drivers side rocker panel and want to use a high quality replacement. Has anyone researched the best source for one? I don't want one I will need to replace 3 years from now because it is made out of cheap steel from China.
Thanks! |

Thanks alot. I didn't know you get OEM ones. I know Raybucks has them made out of 19ga steel for like $20 and the local body shop supply house has some but they really look cheap.

Re: Who has the best quality rocker panels?
As everyone knows, GM rockers aren't exactly rust proof. It's not so much the metal thickness (thicker ones just take a little longer to rust through), as how you treat the backside. I like to undercoat the backside before I weld them on. Afterwords, I spray the inside with body wax. The wax will run down into the seam between the inner and outer rockers. If you look at most any rust, it usually starts where two pieces of metal are overlapped, therefore trapping moisture. Even tinfoil thin rockers will last forever if moisture is kept at bay.

Re: Who has the best quality rocker panels?
The oem rockers don't fit any better then the reproduction rockers from Triplus. We have installed many of both. Occasionally you can get a rocker from Triplus thats has some more waves in it but not too often. I know their will be some that will chime in and say that I am wrong. Oh well. The triplus brand fit fine. sometimes its the skill of the person putting them on. If you have to cut and slice them up as much as I have seen done. Something else is wrong. Do honestly think that GM is still stamping them out?

Thanks Guys. Everyone makes some really good points. I guess for $100 difference plus shipping I will get one from my local supplier and see how it looks. I will treat the backside before putting in and extend its life. I appreciates everyone's input.

Re: Who has the best quality rocker panels?
I compared a pair of GM rocker panels to a pair of Key Parts ROCKER PANELS AND THE Key Parts were heavier than the original GM and looked just as good.

The Triplus ones are pretty decent. One of the few aftermarket parts I would use again.

Re: Who has the best quality rocker panels?
I agree with turp mcspray. It's all in the prep! After doing what he suggests, be sure to make sure all the holes are plugged tight. Use body seam sealer on plastic plugs for the round holes. And apply liberally to all seams. I sealed up the underside of my inner rocker and cab corners with a few coats of rattle can bed liner to keep the rocks from chipping.
